Chronic alcohol consumption increases the NFκB level in airway Mφ. Definition of abbreviations: MΦ, macrophage; NFκB, nuclear factor-κB; PGN, peptidoglycan. Airway Mφs were prepared from each experimental mouse in the same way as described in Figure 2. Total proteins were extracted from purified Mφs and subjected to Western blotting to determine the NFκB level in airway Mφ. The immune blots show levels of NFκB. The bars show densitometrical data that are presented as percentage of β-actin (the internal control). Alcohol+A20+PGN: Mice were treated with synthesized A20 (100 ng/mouse) via i.p. 30 min prior to alcohol gavage. Other treatments were the same as for the group "Alcohol+PGN".
